Description

Deliciously soft and fluffy butter cookies perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups butter (3 sticks)
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup melted butter (5⅓ tablespoons)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 78 tablespoons milk
  • 1 food coloring (optional)
  • 1 sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, scraping down the bowl after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper if desired.
  7. Scoop scant ¼-cup portions of dough, roll into balls, and flatten slightly. Place 2-3 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set and the edges just begin to brown. Do not overbake.
  9. Cool on the pan for 4-5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Place the powdered sugar in a medium bowl.
  11. Add the melted butter, vanilla, and 7 tablespoons of milk. Stir until well combined.
  12. Add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, only if needed for desired consistency.
  13. Tint with food coloring if desired. Frost cooled cookies and top with sprinkles.

Notes

  • Refrigerating the dough helps to keep cookies from spreading too much.
  • Feel free to customize with your favorite food coloring and sprinkles.
