Description

A delicious tart made with layers of phyllo dough and a pistachio filling, perfect for dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted pistachios, finely ground
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Phyllo Dough: Thaw phyllo dough according to package instructions. Keep it covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  3. Layer Phyllo: Brush a tart pan with melted butter. Lay a sheet of phyllo in the pan, brush with butter, and sprinkle a thin layer of ground pistachios. Repeat the process until you have about 6 layers of phyllo and pistachios, using about 12-15 sheets of phyllo.
  4. Form the Tart Shell: Trim the excess phyllo around the edges, leaving about an inch over the sides. Fold overhanging edges inward to form a neat crust.
  5. Mix Filling: In a bowl, combine sugar, ground cardamom, honey, and lemon zest. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Add Filling: Pour the honey mixture into the center of the phyllo shell, spreading gently to distribute evenly.
  7. Layer More Phyllo: Add another 3 layers of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter. Sprinkle the top with the remaining ground pistachios.
  8. Bake the Tart: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  9. Cool: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Keep Phyllo Moist: Always keep the phyllo sheets covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out.
  • Butter: Ensure each layer of phyllo is well-buttered to achieve a crisp texture.
  • Variations: For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of rose water or orange blossom water to the honey mixture.
  • Serving Suggestion: Serve with a drizzle of additional honey or a dollop of whipped cream.
