Description

Enjoy your deliciously moist chocolate layer cake!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Buttercream or frosting of choice for filling and topping
  • Optional: chocolate shavings or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water until the mixture is well blended. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour and Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. Assemble Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of buttercream or frosting over the top. Place the second layer on top and spread frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
  8. Decorate: Optionally, sprinkle chocolate shavings or sprinkles on top for decoration.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs and milk for better mixing and texture.
  • For extra moistness, you can brush each layer with simple syrup before adding frosting.
  • Ensure the cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent the buttercream from melting.
  • Experiment with different extracts or flavorings in the frosting to create unique variations.
