- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
- Olive oil for cooking
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef, sausage, onions, and garlic. Cook until meat is browned and onion is translucent. Drain excess fat, then stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Add sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Prepare Noodles: Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Mix Ricotta: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese with the egg, mixing well.
- Assemble Lasagna: In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer 4 noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over noodles. Top with a third of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat layers: sauce, noodles, ricotta, and cheeses. For the final layer, top with remaining noodles, sauce, and cheeses.
- Bake: Cover with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray foil with cooking spray). Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Let the lasagna sit for a few minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape.
- Feel free to customize the toppings with your choice of herbs or additional cheese.
