- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork or sausage (optional)
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 3 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
- Cook the Meat:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until translucent.
- Add ground beef (and pork/sausage, if using). Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Prepare Cheese Mixture:
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, eggs, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Assemble the Lasagna:
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce.
- Place three lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake:
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to help it set.
- For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the meat sauce while simmering.
- Feel free to substitute or add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for a different twist.
