Description

A classic lasagna recipe that combines rich flavors of beef, cheese, and marinara sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork or sausage (optional)
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the Meat:
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until translucent.
    • Add ground beef (and pork/sausage, if using). Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare Cheese Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, eggs, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna:
    • In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce.
    • Place three lasagna noodles over the sauce.
    • Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
    • Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese.
    • Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

  • Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to help it set.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the meat sauce while simmering.
  • Feel free to substitute or add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for a different twist.
