Description

A delicious and indulgent dessert featuring layers of puff pastry, vanilla custard, and rich chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 sheets puff pastry sheets
  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 200ml heavy cream
  • 500ml vanilla custard
  • Butter for greasing
  • Icing sugar for dusting
  • Cornflakes or crumbled flakes for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheets to ensure they are even.
    • Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
    • Prick the pastry sheets with a fork to prevent them from puffing up too much.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
    • Let them cool completely.
  2. Make the Chocolate Ganache:
    • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to boil.
    • Pour the hot cream over chopped dark chocolate in a bowl.
    • Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Assemble the Mille-Feuille:
    • Place one sheet of puff pastry on a serving platter.
    • Spread a layer of vanilla custard evenly over the pastry.
    • Place the second puff pastry sheet on top and repeat with custard.
    • Top with the third puff pastry sheet.
  4. Add the Chocolate Topping:
    • Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the assembled mille-feuille.
    • Allow some ganache to drip down the sides for a decorative effect.
  5. Finish with Toppings:
    • Sprinkle crushed cornflakes on top for added texture and a slight crunch.
    • Dust with icing sugar for a sweet touch.

Notes

  • Make sure the pastry is fully cooled before assembly to prevent the custard from melting.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of rum or almond extract to the custard.
  • Allow the assembled mille-feuille to chill in the fridge for an hour before serving to set properly.
  • Serve with fresh berries on the side for a refreshing contrast.
