Description

This creamy basil chicken dish is perfect for a comforting meal, combining tender chicken breasts with a rich basil cream sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Start by patting your chicken breasts dry with a paper towel. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. Lightly dredge each chicken breast in the seasoned flour until well coated on both sides.
  2. Brown the Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside on a plate, keeping it warm.
  3. Make the Basil Cream Sauce: In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the Cream and Cheese: Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for another 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in the fresh chopped basil.
  5. Bring It All Together: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, spooning the basil cream sauce over the top. Let everything simmer together for another 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld beautifully.
  6. Serve Warm: Plate the chicken with a generous spoonful of sauce. It pairs wonderfully with pasta, mashed potatoes, or even roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • This dish is best served warm and can be paired with various sides such as pasta or vegetables.
  • The crushed red pepper flakes can be omitted for a milder flavor.
  • Feel free to substitute the basil with other herbs like parsley or oregano for a different flavor profile.
